Future Foundation/Fantastic Four Pixel Art

I’ve been working a lot of fan art with pixel art lately. It forces me to address my artistic weaknesses – color, value and basic shape. By reducing the available detail, I have to focus on the big stuff.

This has been a really fun project. Jonathan Hickman’s run on Fantastic Four/FF has been one of my favorite comic runs ever. I loved the characters and the full exploration of science adventures that defines the FF. I especially loved the personal moments between the members of the Fantastic Four and their family.

Next I’m looking at doing more backgrounds/environment work and animation.

NRDland and Petra’s Call

Things have been very quiet here at shaneneville.com. There are a lot of reasons – work, family, life. But the biggest reason is that I’ve been working on my next side project that is now live.

Ninja Robot Dinosaur (aka NRD) is my side-project company. And after a few false starts and aborted projects, my first NRD project is live: Petra’s Call.

Petra’s Call is a flash comic about a druid girl who wants nothing more than to hear the spirits of the forest so she can join the war against the cities.

Petra’s Call is an experiment in story-telling on the web (pacing, linking, format), teired narrative (linked wiki’s, hidden secrets) and process (producing a few pages of a fully colored and interactive comics with only a couple of hours a day to work on it).

Gah!

Wow – so I started following blogs who have been nothing but twitter updates – and well… I’m really sorry for doing what I’ve been doing on my blog. This is devastating to all 4 of my faithful readers (hi mom – please follow me on Twitter!).

While the blogging will be infrequent over the next little stretch (finalling a game, finalling side project – more on that soon and being a dad), I haven’t forgotten about my little home on the interwebs.

So – yeah – I just wanted to apologize for punishing you by giving you nothing but twitter updates. I’ve changed my settings and it’s going to stop now.
