DMZ (Can) is my favorite new comic to come out over the past year. I’ve been a fan of Brian Wood’s work ever since Dr. 4est introduced me to Channel Zero (Can). In DMZ, Wood is again at the top of his game, talking about something he cares about: Politics, media and New York.

The premise behind DMZ is a 2nd Civil War and NY gets caught in the middle of it. An aspiring journalist gets stranded in Manhattan, which is reportedly filled with ‘terrorists’ and ‘rebels’. What the reporter finds are people struggling to keep their homes and their way of life in a world filled with chaos. The writing is personal and honest and presents us with a world that isn’t too far from our own.

Published by Vertigo, DMZ has been a great success and continues to gain fans. To help spread the word, the first issue is now online for anyone to download and read. Check it.
